Privacy Notice

Last updated: 12 July 2026

1. Who we are

TrustLocal (Pty) Ltd (in registration), sole director Sean Zonneveld, trading as "TrustLocal" ("we", "us", "our"), operates the TrustLocal directory. We are the data controller responsible for personal information collected through the Service. For privacy questions, email support@trustlocal.co.za.

2. Personal information we collect

  • Account details — name, email address, password (hashed), and login provider (e.g. Google).
  • Business listing details — business name, category, city, phone, WhatsApp, email, website and description that you choose to publish.
  • Verification documents — CIPC registration, ID, proof of address.
  • Support messages — content of any correspondence you send us.
  • Usage and device data — IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and interactions used for security, fraud prevention and product improvement.

Payment card details are collected and processed by Paddle, not by us. We only receive limited transaction metadata.

3. How we use your information

  • Create and operate your account (contract performance).
  • Publish approved listings to consumers (contract performance).
  • Review verification documents and prevent fraud (legitimate interests, legal obligation).
  • Provide customer support (contract performance).
  • Improve and secure the Service (legitimate interests).
  • Send service-related emails; marketing emails only with your consent.

4. Who we share information with

  • Paddle, our Merchant of Record, for payment processing, subscription management, tax compliance and invoicing.
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers that store data and run the Service on our behalf.
  • Professional advisers (legal, accounting) where necessary.
  • Authorities where required by law or to protect our rights.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. Retention

We keep account and listing data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal, tax and dispute-resolution requirements. Verification documents are deleted or anonymised when they are no longer needed for the purpose they were collected.

6. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and hosting on reputable infrastructure providers. No system is perfectly secure — please use a strong password and keep your credentials confidential.

7. Your rights

Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • request correction or deletion;
  • object to certain processing, including direct marketing;
  • withdraw consent where processing relies on consent;
  • complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa).

To exercise any of these rights, email support@trustlocal.co.za.

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We may use analytics cookies to understand how the Service is used; these do not identify you personally. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
